HANDS OF THE ARTIST #1 This is a piece that happened almost by accident. While I was putting the finishing touches on one of my commissions, a blue Hydrangia titled In Leslies Garden, my wife took a photo of my hands at work. When I saw them, I thought, “Oh I like this.” So we reshot my hands with a high definition camera and I used the prints to reconstruct my hands at work at the edges of the sculptured blue flower petals. I worked with the framer to place the life-sized hands halfway in to further enhance the illusion of dimensionality. It has become a real conversation piece. So much so I am planning to create a Hands of the Artist series. To create this work, I used a combination of multi-layered digital photo painting, sculpted archival paper, pastels, acrylics and watercolor. The 23"x29" piece is framed with acid-free, floating mats under museum glass. Hanging hardware is in place on the black dimensional gallery frame. Also included with the original is a Certificate of Authenticity and a photo of the artist creating "Hands of the Artist." Prints are also available.
